For Preseason 2023, we evolved the Chemtech map from the previous year. Chemtech and Zaun in League previously was dark, grungy, and full of toxic fumes. With the new gameplay mechanic centered around more powerful plants, I proposed a more colorful and vibrant direction that showed the Rift not dying from the effects of Chemtech, but flourishing with its beautiful mutation.
This project was an intimidating but awesome experience for me to try new things. I acted as Art Lead for Preseason at the request of my team, which meant... Pitching the visual direction, planning and scoping with production, working with our designers and juggling feedback, managing outsourcing feedback and paintovers — on top of the regular asset creation, map building, foray into concept, and working with tech artists and engineers for new shaders and making sure that everything *worked*.
